Headstrong uses smart technology called generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) to make the app’s conversations flow more naturally. This AI runs in a secure system (Azure-based private tenant for OpenAI services managed by the University of Auckland). This means that your chats stay private and safe. The technology helps improve how the app interacts with you but does not change or replace the human expert-created mental health content in the app.

All generative AI processing happens securely within the University’s system, and no data is shared outside this private setup. Headstrong is designed to protect your privacy and keep your information safe. It follows strict data protection rules, including New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020 and Health Information Privacy Code 2020.
